Abstract

|
Fine structure and innervation of the coronary artery in normal and 5-hydroxydopamine administrated Mongolian gerbil were observed with electron microscopy. Adjacent endothelial cells were closly apposed to one another and appeared to be joined over a large part of their margin. Numerous caveolae intracellulares and large population of cytoplasmic vesicles were observed in the endothelial cells. The smooth muscle cells of the tunica media appeared similar to those in other organs of the body. No smooth muscle cells were seen in the intima and adventitia. In the main trunk of coronary arteries were surrounded by perivascular plexus composed of preterminal nerve bundles. The adrenergic and cholinergic nerve fibers were observed in the walls of the coronary arteries between the adventitia and the outer smooth muscle cells of the media. The circumflex and interventricular coronary arteries were innervated mainly with adrenergic nerve fibers.
